Úpice Observatory
The
observatory is located in beautiful natural surroundings on a hill above the
town. The astronomy hobby
group preceded its
establishment. In
1959 the main building was opened with an observation dome and the first
telescopes were acquired. Today's observatory complex provides facilities for
highly specialized activities and primarily for education and outreach work
aimed at school children and the general public. The observatory offers guided
observations of the night sky and a special daily observation of the sun. On
the menu are a variety of public education programs, counselling and
consultation. In summer, the observatory organizes camp type visits for
children and young people with an interest in astronomy.
