Nové Město nad Metují, referred to as the “Czech Bethlehem”, is a real
gem among Czech Renaissance towns. It was founded on a rocky promontory
bordered on three sides by the Metuje River. Historical centre – unique
Renaissance square with arcades, historical entrance halls (Maßhaus) of
old houses, a provost church, chateau, chateau garden and fortification –
form an urban monument reservation. Interesting events and picturesque
surroundings are definitely worth visiting.
Peklo (Hell) – well-known excursion destination with a stylish restaurant; Slavoňov – a small timbered church from the 16th century.
